you will likely not need many counter buys while playing a full support build, as you can essentially heal yourself for almost all damage taken past a certain point. however, in the early game it is absolutely necessary to keep your teamate alive- if you cannot, focus on maxxing your pillow so that you may put out heavier damage- maybe even buy a cheap counter-buy, or a map control item such as alchemical fire0 items
